ENGLISH ELLIPSIS IN THE NOVEL OF ANGELS AND DEMONS

Abstract

Makalah ini meneliti elipsis dalam novel oleh Dan Brown. Teori-teori digunakan untuk menganalisis 90 ujaran untuk mencari tipe ellipsis yang muncul. Berdasarkan analisis temuan terdapat sembilan tipe ellipsis dalam novel ini. Yang paling menonjol ialah AF, CrD, dan VPE sedangkan yang paling kurang digunakan ialah G dan CoD. Hal ini berimplikasi secara teoretik dan pedagogik tentang aspek formal-informal serta pengajaran sintak dalam teks flingsional. Kata kunci: elipsis, tipe, novel Abstract: This paper examines ellipsis in the novel by Dan Brown. Theories on ellipsis are used to judge 90 utterances to seek types of ellipsis occurring in the novel. Based on the analysis of the findings the novel contains nine types of ellipsis. The most used types are AF, CrD, and VPE. The least used is G and CoD. This provides theoretical and pedagogical impli¬cations regarding the formal-informal aspects of and the teaching of syntax in functional texts. Key words: ellipsis, types, novel
